About Tiny Desk Photos

Tiny Desk Photos is an ongoing wildlife portrait series by photographer Rick Zwetsch, featuring original wildlife photography paired with dry, unexpected humor.

The project began much the way many unexpected projects do: while working.

Inspired by NPR's Tiny Desk Concert Series, Rick started photographing birds and other wildlife from the desk in his home office overlooking the backyard in Holland, Michigan. Armed with a Fujifilm X-H2s and a 150-600mm lens, he spent countless workdays watching wildlife go about their lives just beyond the window.

Photographing from a desk comes with its own challenges. Light changes by the minute. Michigan winters are not known for abundant sunshine. Most images are captured through double-paned glass, making focus and timing far more difficult than they appear. Over time, those imperfections became part of the story.

These are not just photographs. They are split-second reactions. Posture. Mood. Sometimes commentary.

Each image captures an expressive wildlife moment and pairs it with a personality-driven caption designed to make people laugh, relate, or do a double-take. The combination transforms ordinary wildlife encounters into tiny stories that feel surprisingly familiar.

While many photographs are taken from the desk that inspired the project, Rick also photographs wildlife while traveling, exploring local parks, and wandering through communities near and far. Wherever they are found, the goal remains the same: capture personality, timing, and presence in a single frame.

Because sometimes wildlife looks exactly like the people we know.

All photographs are original works created by Rick Zwetsch. Prints are professionally produced to order on premium luster photo paper and shipped within the United States.

The collection continues to grow, one portrait at a time.
